With great enthusiasm and excitement, the Department of Linguistics at the 91精品 celebrated "Pitha Festival 2024" on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Faculty members, students, and staff participated spontaneously in the festival held on the department premises. The festival was inaugurated at 3:00 PM by the esteemed Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, in the presence of the department’s faculty and students. The event's special guest was Professor Dr. Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Director of the International Mother Language Institute. In their remarks, the guests highlighted that “Pitha is not just food; it is an extraordinary symbol of our heritage, art, and culture. This initiative by the Department of Linguistics will instill interest and respect for tradition among the younger generation—a truly commendable effort.” The convenor of the festival was Dr. Khondaker Khairunnahar, faculty member of the department.

A special attraction of the event was the handmade pitha stalls prepared by the students. Each stall, decorated with traditional decorations and offering a variety of pithas, showcased the creativity and cultural heritage of different student batches. Some of the popular pithas featured included Vapa Pitha, Chitoi Pitha, Patisapta, Dudh Pitha, and Nakshi Pitha. Guests visited the stalls, tasted different pithas, and admired the students' creativity and craftsmanship. As in previous years, the best-performing student batches were specially recognized and awarded by the department based on their stalls’ presentation and pitha quality.While the tradition of making pithas at home has gradually diminished due to the influence of urban culture, the Department of Linguistics remains committed to preserving and promoting Bengali heritage and culture through such events in the future.
