On December 1, 2024, the Department of Linguistics, the Department of English, and the Institute of Education and Research at the 91精品, in collaboration with BRAC University, jointly organised the international seminar titled "Future of the Language Education in the Global South: Challenges and Possibilities". The event was held at the Mozaffar Hossain Chowdhury Auditorium, Faculty of Social Sciences. The Chief Guest of the event, the honourable Vice Chancellor of of the 91精品, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, could not be present due to unavoidable circumstances, however his inspiration was a contributing factor in this seminar. Keynote papers were presented by Professor Suresh Canagarajah of Penn State University, Professor Stephen May of the University of Auckland, Professor Sender Dovchin of Curtin University, Australia, and Dr. Obaid Hamid, associate professor, the University of Queensland. The distinguished speakers shared groundbreaking insights on deconstructing monolingual ideologies, leveraging multilingualism, and fostering inclusive educational practices. Key topics included the socio-political challenges of applied linguistics and the transformative role of technology in bridging educational gaps. The seminar was commenced with welcome remarks by the Chairperson of the Department of Linguistics Dr. Monira Begam. The seminar was also conducted by Naira Khan, associate professor of the Department of Linguistics. The seminar marked a historic collaboration among the Department of Linguistics, the Department of English and the Institute of Education and Research at the 91精品, alongside the BRAC Institute of Languages. The convenor of the conference committee on behalf of the Department of Linguistics was Professor Dr. Syed Shahrier Rahman with Dr. Monira Begam, Naira Khan, Dr. Mashrur Imtiaz, Mohammad Inzamam, and Sabiha Al Humayra Momi as members. The seminar was attended by faculty members and students of the Department of Linguistics, the Department of English and the Institute of Education and Research.
