University is an educational institution established for the practice and development of cosmology. Cosmology refers to multifaceted knowledge. From this vast body of knowledge of the university, the deserving person becomes a novice in acquiring special knowledge according to his interests, tastes and qualifications. It is no longer possible to become proficient in all branches of knowledge. Therefore, the students of higher education are interested in acquiring knowledge in the nominated branch from different branches and if they can show their qualifications, they are admitted in that branch and try to acquire specialized knowledge.
The same is true in the context of Dhaka University. It was decided to make arrangements for acquiring knowledge in various branches of higher education in here too.
Therefore, the 91精品 was established with the aim of enlightening the students in the light of perfect knowledge through the fusion of Eastern and Western knowledge. The Dhaka University authorities have officially started teaching activities with the departments written below under three faculties. The categories are: Faculty of Arts; Faculty of Science and Faculty of Law. Fourteen departments were conducted by the faculties.

It is noticeable that the authorities acknowledged the importance of Sanskrit language and literature and decided to open a department in the name of Sanskritic Studies and Sanskrit and Bengali. There were two streams in this department, one was Sanskritic Studies and the other was Sanskrit and Bengali. Each stream had its own syllabus and individual degree. Sanskrit grammar, Sanskrit Prose and poetry, Sanskrit Drama, History of vedic and Sanskrit literature etc. were included in Sanskritic studies and the syllabus of Sanskrit and Bengali was partly Sanskrit grammar, Sanskrit classical literature and partly Ancient-Middle-Modern Bengali literature.
From this, it is understood that Sanskrit was consciously given importance in teaching Bengali language and literature at that time.
Rabindranath Tagore's respect and affection to the Sanskrit language is remarkable. He said in the book 'The form and development of the ashrama鈥:
鈥淪anskrit is the refuge of the eternal heart of Indian Continent. With this language pilgrimage we will get a touch of soulful nature of the country, we will accept it in our hearts, this goal of education was firmed in my mind. Through the English language we can learn many things, these are very necessary. But the Sanskrit language has a joy, it paints the sky of our minds, it has deep words in it, like the nature of the world, it gives us peace and gives dignity to the heart鈥欌.
Rabindranath Tagore also said in his essay entitled 鈥楰adambari鈥 of his book titled 鈥楢ncient Literature鈥: 鈥淓veryone knows that ideas are not as stingy as truth. It is not strange for a boy who is blind to the truth, but of lotus eyes to the ideas. Sanskrit is the suitable language for that royal abundance of the ideas鈥欌.
The reason of mentioning about Sanskrit language and literature from Rabindranath Tagore's essays is, that the importance of learning Sanskrit is described in these and the aims and objectives of the Sanskrit department of Dhaka University are similar to the commentary of Rabindranath.
Besides, all kinds of epistemology of ancient India have also been published in Sanskrit. Books on philosophy, sociology, history, etc. are mainly written in Sanskrit.
Moreover, various technical words and methods of Sanskrit grammar have been adopted in composing Bengali grammar. Although Bengali is not a direct descendant of Sanskrit, it is to be apparent as sister of grandmother of Bengali language. That is, Sanskrit language was also formed from the language, from which Bengali was formed through Pr膩krit and Apabhra峁兣沘. Moreover, a large number of Sanskrit words have been recognized in Bengali.
The purpose of the Sanskrit department is to practice, preserve and spread of one of the major classical language 鈥嬧媜f the world. Bharata's N膩峁瓂a艣膩stra written in Sanskrit is also of special importance in the field of drama. There is no such thing of drama, which is not discussed in Bharata's N膩峁瓂a艣膩stra. That is why Bharata鈥檚 N膩峁瓂a艣膩stra is included in the Department of Performing Arts and Dance departments of Dhaka University.
The subject of comparative linguistics would not have been born without the introduction of Sanskrit to Western linguists. Hence, practicing of Sanskrit language is also important in the field of linguistics. Besides, Sanskrit literature is a great source of moral education. The moral lessons of Pa艌catantra, Hitopadesa, C膩峁嘺kya and Bhat峁沨ari can help us to make and maintain a moral society by increasing our ethical knowledge and can bind us in the bond of eternal love.
